Extension House dmvA
This project is an extension to an A-framed house intended to reconvert a holiday house into a comfortable contemporary house. The addition’s structure follows the structural frame of the original A-house with the two frames next to each other connecting the old and the new. The back and the front side of the addition are fully glazed and house a library, a new bathroom and the entrance.

Introducing: From The Factory
Early last week, a reporter emailed our customer experience team asking for in-depth information about our factories and their employees. She asked many questions and we did our best to answer. But we weren’t able to address one specific request: What is the wage of each of the employees at each of our factories? That’s a tall task with over 10,000 factory workers around the world and outside our ability. But even if we answered her question, it wouldn’t tell the whole story.
This got us thinking. People constantly write in to ask us about our factories, labor conditions, and general compliance. We answer every question, but we’ve noticed that people sometimes come in with negative preconceptions and very little context. That makes it challenging to have a dialogue, because most explanations in our industry require a deep understanding of the entire ecosystem.
So today, we’re excited to introduce a multi-part series titled ‘From The Factory’. In this series, we’ll push the boundaries of transparency. US vs Italy vs China? We’ll answer that. What makes a fair wage? We’ll go there too.
We’ll start by taking you on the journey of finding a factory. Then we’ll show you how we work to ensure both great quality and working conditions, while explaining the industry and political dynamics that can come into play. We’ll even share a few of our hiccups. For each post in this series, we’ll dissect a specific part of the process and leave the comment section open for discussion.
Now, help us kick off the series by asking us your toughest questions. What do you want to know?
Love this.
